Worldwide Textiles

Saturday, July 16th, 2011

Hi there.

So I’m in New York now, and will be for a while. Lately my plans have consisted of hitting up every single museum in the city, starting with the Frick Collection (mostly because you can shout out its funny name while you are figuring out which subway stop to get off at – Where the frick is the fricking Frick Collection?!!). Since I’m sort of out and about lately I haven’t made any new patterns, so here’s hoping that the assortment of worldwide textiles I found at the American Museum of Natural History satisfies any need for pretty pretty prints.

I’m sorry for posting these divorced from their original context because now I can’t remember which images are Turkish textiles and which are Azerbaijani, or which early Peruvian culture wove what.

Hello there.

I’ve made two new wallpapers, up in a variety of sizes:

Bad Fortune Ne'er Should Daunt Me
"Bad fortune ne’er should daunt me, for I am young and the world is wide"

I designed the above wallpaper to keep myself from getting too down lately. I’ve been spending my time applying fruitlessly for every job I can find. I can think of a few words to describe this economic recession, and most of them are plagiarized from George Carlin.

Proverbs from around the world

There’s also this wallpaper with proverbs. When searching them out for use here, I came across an interesting one from China: Do not remove a fly from your friend’s forehead with an axe. I hope this doesn’t mean that 600 years ago in the Forbidden City some poor soul found this out the hard way.

I’ve added five new backgrounds, this time a very eclectic collection. I’ve got three collage-style backgrounds that I assembled out of junk mail and old magazines, a deco design in teal and orange, and a background listing some 1930s diner lingo.
To be fair I’ve never actually heard anyone use diner lingo in my entire life, but I’d love to hear the workers at McDonalds shout out "Burn one, take it through the garden and pin a rose on it" every time somebody wants a burger.

I’ve also uploaded 12 new iPhone wallpapers to Flickr.

You go, Glen Coco!

If you are Marketplace beta tester over at Spoonflower, you can now purchase a few of my designs as fabric. You can take a look at the designs available if you like, and when the Marketplace opens to all users you’ll be able to buy as many yards as you could ever need.

With love,

Greetings!

One of my designs has been selected as a competitor for Spoonflower‘s fabric of the week, so cast a vote for "Floral by Sarah"… if you are so inclined. *EDIT* Contest has ended!

Also I’ve added a free paper doll, which is something I’ve been working on for the past few days. It’s a doll of Marie Antoinette, the French queen who met a gruesome end. She comes with four elaborate dresses and five wigs. I was hoping to make the doll a little larger, but her dresses turned out to be so oversized that I ended up shrinking the whole thing. Her majesty was not known for minimalism, after all. It is absolutely not historically accurate, as I am fairly sure that Marie Antoinette was never seen wearing giant snowglobe.

And best of all, because it is free, you can guillotine off her little paper head without remorse. I don’t know why I am so mean to paper.

Earlier today I was browsing through CRAFT Magazine‘s blog, and I came upon some familiar faces…

Star Trek embroidery

So I freaked out a little because I MADE THAT. That is my terrible project. Tremendous!

THAT IS ALL.

Two new wallpapers are up.
Also I’ve got this cool new printable that lets you stick smiley faces on everything you own. Observe:

Oh, and if you like any of the patterns I’ve been posting here, then you might be interested in purchasing some super unique fabric from my Etsy shop.

Four new backgrounds are up. What a lot of pretty.

Hopefully soon I will start selling some fabric with these prints. That would be super because I am as poor as the nutritional value of a Twinkie.

Ricky Gervais, in a cavernous laundromat

Saturday, November 1st, 2008

I’ve updated the stationery section so that all the files are in PDF format, meaning higher quality! They’re also all exactly 8.5 x 11 inches, and there’s even two new designs up. They’re perfect for Christmas because they’re much higher quality than a lot of the other stuff you’ll find on the web, and I think they’re pretty classy looking.

There are eight new tiled backgrounds up, so check those out. I’m using some of them to make fabric at Spoonflower.

I add six new images to the Northern California travel gallery, and six to the Bay Area gallery as well.

On a totally unrelated note, I’ve put together this image of a dream I had a while ago. Most people are never really interested in hearing about other people’s dreams in detail, so I’ll just leave you with this image to ponder:
