Blogs are ***MAGIC!***

Tuesday, December 23rd, 2008

Happy holiday greetings!

I’ve added one new background and one new wallpaper. The newest wallpaper fits into the possibly running theme of ‘adorable-animals-that-look-like-paper-cutouts,’ and now I know the joy of spending a Saturday night trying to draw lipstick (à la Clara Bow) onto a cartoon reptile.
I’ve also uploaded some brand new holiday gift tags. I don’t suppose gift tags are all that useful one day before Christmas, but there you have them.

There’s also a small collection of iPhone wallpapers available on my Flickr account that you are free to download. Since iPhone wallpapers are only useful to a small percentage of the population, I’m posting them in the Flickr pool to give them a better shot at exposure. I myself do not actually own an iPhone, so somebody has to please tell me if these things actually work.

Also, now that this site is a blog I feel a little obligated to find some good ummm… blog friends. The other day a lovely site called iDIY gave a shout-out to my little Christmas Stationery collection, and I somehow got an email in my inbox telling me they had linked to my site. I think my own blog emailed me. There’s probably a technical explanation for this, but I’m going to go ahead and assume it’s ***BLOG MAGIC***!!! My point is, if you or someone you know has a kooky graphic design website and wouldn’t mind being associated with this place, then please leave a link in the comments.

Happy Holidays!

Success! And pandas!

Wednesday, November 26th, 2008

It’s working! I installed a blog! Hooray! That was so needlessly complicated, but I did it! Every page should now be in the correct format. Please update any bookmarks that don’t link directly to the homepage, and leave a comment if you find any dead links.

I’m currently having some trouble withe the RSS feed, and hopefully I can figure out the problem.

Even pandas are toasting my success.

Pandas are too cool to have blogs.

So this site is no longer the technological equivalent of a rotary phone. Yay?

Under more construction

Monday, November 24th, 2008

I’m working on enlarging the size of this site for higher-resolution monitors, and only the home page is done so far. The good news is, the home page looks fabulous in both Firefox and IE, which has never happened before. Yay?

I’ve been experimenting with PHP to see if I can get more pages converted to the WordPress template, and all I’ve managed to do is give myself a few heart attacks (“Oh God I’ve broken the website!”). All this server technology goes way beyond any training I have as a small-time graphic designer. Right now it’s looking like I’ll have to change every single link on the entire site, which would screw up everyone’s bookmarks. I’m not entirely sure that it’s worth suffering through this coding nightmare just so I can have a comments section with no comments and a sidebar that links to nothing.

Please hang tight while I figure out what to do next.

With love (and frustration),
Sarah

I must be an acrobat…

Sunday, November 23rd, 2008

Four more backgrounds have been added. I’ve been adding them like crazy lately.

Also, Totally Severe is a blog now. There’s a reason why most people have the word “blogspot” in their URLs- it’s because building your own blog freakin’ sucks. I swear, looking at all the PHP code I felt like somebody out of the Matrix reading five million flashing green symbols a minute. Luddites like myself should not be allowed to take on such ridiculous projects.

Parts of this site still have a few kinks in them, and that navigation bar at the side is sort of uncomfortable looking, but hopefully I’ll find a way to resolve that in the future. I’m thinking that I’ll enlarge the site to 1024×768, since nobody uses 800×600 anymore. Also, I got an RSS feed. I do not really know what it does, but I assume it is somehow important.  If you know what to do with an RSS feed, then by all means, get to doing the things that it does. Oh, the things it does!

In summary, I spent seven hours of my life creating a website that looks eerily similar to the previous incarnation, but is more poorly constructed. Hooray!

Yours,

Sarah
